Problem:

The “Error in Network Daemon” error typically  indicates a Dentrix Service communication issue. 


Solution:

1. Test if Dentrix will open on the problem computer.
  • If Dentrix Application is working on this computer then the Server name component of the connection string being used in the app is incorrect (i.e. refers to “localhost” when not on the server. 

  • If “localhost” is specified in the code behind in the DDP's ODBC connection string (in the app’s code)it is recommended that the DDP software always instead specify the actual Dentrix server machine name as found in the registry.

  • where a parameter may have “local host” entered in the DDP App software from a workstation (instead of the actual Dentrix server computer name), this would be the cause of the issue, the incorrect server name.   Check the app’s current connection string where it is tryign to specify the Dentrix ServerName that it is valid and that you can connect to it via e.g. unc path \\ServerName from the run prompt.

  • The Dentrix software will store the name of the server in the windows registry (* see Windows Registry below for more information)

     

2. If Dentrix will not open on this affected computer(s), it could be caused by
  1. The Dentrix server service is stopped

  2. The Dentrix communication ports are blocked for the Dentrix Service on either this computer or the server computer. This is why it is important to know which computers the issue happens on and on which computers Dentrix is working.

 

 

 

*Windows registry ServerName

Below are the windows registry settings where the Dentrix server machine name is stored (for both 32-bit and 64-bit OS).  This will normally be located under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE branch.  However, if for some reason the settings do not exist, you can check the HKEY_CURRENT_USER settings.
