Your list contains a lot of information about your subscribers, including when they signed up, where they’re located, and details about their interests and preferences. With MailChimp, you can use this information to target and filter subscribers into what we call "segments," and send campaigns that are customized to their interests.

About Segments

A segment is a section of your list that contains subscribers with list information in common. MailChimp provides tools to segment your list subscribers using any information that's available in their subscriber profiles, like name, email address, campaign activity, and group preferences, so you can target your campaigns to the right subscribers.

The beauty of segments is that you have the ability to target different types of subscribers in a single list, rather than managing multiple lists with overlapping subscribers. In addition to streamlining your list and data, this can reduce Monthly rates for paid users, whose payments are based on the total number of subscribers in the account.

Create a Simple Segment

Segments can be created in a few ways and saved for reuse with any of your campaigns. Filter your list by up to five segmentation conditions, and choose to include or exclude subscribers for each condition.

From the Lists Page

From the Lists page, you'll be able to view segments, save the segment for later use, or use the similar subscribers feature for paid users. In this example, we'll create a segment of our best subscribers, whose member ratings are 3 stars and higher.

  1. Navigate to the Lists page.
  2. Click the name of the list where you want to create a new segment.
  3. Click the Segments drop-down menu, and click Create a new segment
